Introducing “Me, Myself and I”

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my “Professional Ethics in Physiotherapy Course” blog.

I am excited about the PHT402 Professional Ethics Course as it will be my first online course experience, and blogging, so be kind!  I decided to try a different CPD opportunity as this online course in itself will be such a learning curve for me. I hope to refresh my knowledge on and gain some insight into current aspects of ethical and medico-legal considerations for Physiotherapy Practice.

But before we embark on this journey of
learning, discovery, reflecting and communication,
let me share my life and loves with you.

I am Chantelle, a 28 year old Paediatric Physiotherapist in private practice. I own “Physio at Home”, a domiciliary practice in the Helderberg-Winelands region (Western Cape, South Africa), providing home and school visits for moms, babies and kids. I am passionate about early holistic childhood intervention in the fields of respiratory therapy, neuromotor development and orthopaedic rehabilitation.  For the past 4 years I have also been apart of the Physiotherapy teams at the annual Cape Argus Cycle Tour and Two Oceans Marathon in the Western Cape.

I am on the South African Society of Physiotherapy’s Paediatric Group Committee and manage the Western Cape branch. In accordance with the National Health Calender, we organise special events, support various causes and provide CPD training and educational opportunities for our members.

I am always searching, reflecting and reading to increase my knowledge and stay on top of what is relevant and evidence-based to be able to effectively and holistically help and support moms and their little ones in times of need. I am currently very excited about Therapeutic Kinesio Taping (sensori-motor tape to facilitate muscle activation and movement patterns), Hippotherapy (horse assisted sensory-motor therapy) and SASL AAC (SA Sign Language as an Alternative and Augmentative Communication Tool for special needs children).

It’s such an honor to be apart of the developmental journey of a child, to watch them grow and develop into beautiful and strong individuals, overcoming obstacles and reaching their full potential. My work is my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
