Introducing “Me, Myself and I”

Standard

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my “Professional Ethics in Physiotherapy Course” blog.

I am excited about the PHT402 Professional Ethics Course as it will be my first online course experience, and blogging, so be kind!  I decided to try a different CPD opportunity as this online course in itself will be such a learning curve for me. I hope to refresh my knowledge on and gain some insight into current aspects of ethical and medico-legal considerations for Physiotherapy Practice.

But before we embark on this journey of
learning, di
scovery, reflecting and communication,
let me share my life and loves with you.

I am Chantelle, a 28 year old Paediatric Physiotherapist in private practice. I own “Physio at Home”, a domiciliary practice in the Helderberg-Winelands region (Western Cape, South Africa), providing home and school visits for moms, babies and kids. I am passionate about early holistic childhood intervention in the fields of respiratory therapy, neuromotor development and orthopaedic rehabilitation.  For the past 4 years I have also been apart of the Physiotherapy teams at the annual Cape Argus Cycle Tour and Two Oceans Marathon in the Western Cape.

I am on the South African Society of Physiotherapy’s Paediatric Group Committee and manage the Western Cape branch. In accordance with the National Health Calender, we organise special events, support various causes and provide CPD training and educational opportunities for our members.

I am always searching, reflecting and reading to increase my knowledge and stay on top of what is relevant and evidence-based to be able to effectively and holistically help and support moms and their little ones in times of need. I am currently very excited about Therapeutic Kinesio Taping (sensori-motor tape to facilitate muscle activation and movement patterns), Hippotherapy (horse assisted sensory-motor therapy) and SASL AAC (SA Sign Language as an Alternative and Augmentative Communication Tool for special needs children).

It’s such an honor to be apart of the developmental journey of a child, to watch them grow and develop into beautiful and strong individuals, overcoming obstacles and reaching their full potential. My work is my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Your life is defined by its opportunitieseven the ones you miss.
For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or too early to be whoever you want to be.
There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want.
You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing.
We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it.
And I hope you see things that startle you.
I hope you feel things you never felt before.
I hope you meet people with a different point of view.
I hope you live a life you’re proud of.
If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”

  1. Hi Chantelle, it’s a pleasure to ‘meet’ you. This is a great first blog post and a fabulous looking design, thank you for your efforts! I hope that you enjoy your experience of this online course, looking forward to taking part with you.

  2. Hi Chantelle! Great to meet you as well. You seem like an extremely dedicated physiotherapist with a genuine passion for what you do. I hope to find my niche in PT just as you clearly have. I look forward to working with you in this course and hearing more from you. Thanks for sharing your post!

  3. Hi Chantelle,
nice to meet you. Love your quote fit me perfectly at the moment and I even sent it to a friend who just celebrated her 30th birthday today. your blog is beautiful and doesn’t feel like at all like you are a first time blogger. Noam

  4. Hi Chantelle,

I am touched by your words ” my work is my life”. It made me rethink of why i became a physiotherapist in the first place. Also, it’s the first time i heard of Hippotherapy. I definitely will research about it later. Thanks for writing a moving as well as a very informative intro. Looking forward to chatting with you soon. Kudos!

  5. Hello Chantelle,
Your photos of the children (and the horses) are lovely; I am a physio in the UK;, and many years ago I used to work in paediatrics, and my favourite part of the week was the hippotherapy session.
Look forward to exchanging ideas on the Professional Ethics course,
    Wendy

  6. Hi Chantelle. Great first post. Looking forward to following your thoughts during the course. Just so you know, I’ve applied to the SASP to have this course accredited for all 5 of the required Ethics CPD points. I still haven’t heard back from them but hopefully when I do it’ll be a positive response.

My hope is that I’ll be able to run this course every year for SA physios, and I want it to always be free. We’ll have to wait and see what the SASP says though 🙂

    • Hi Michael, thanks for your comment. Magda Fourie (consultant@saphysio.co.za) handles all CPD accreditation for courses, by the SASP. Sometimes it can take a few weeks for accreditation. Wish it was quiker. Sure it’ll get sorted! Best is usually to drop her a line weekly just to follow up as emails get lost or down listed and forgotten, as I know she gets over 200 a day. I’ve waited 1 week for a course’s accreditation and for another course over 5 weeks due to some unforseen delays on the system etc.
Having this course run annually will be a fantastic opportunity for SA physio’s.
Looking forward to this course. 🙂

  7. Hi Chantelle! so surprised to see I’m in the picture you posted (i.e the 1 with students, front and center).

you’re amazing! looking forward to following your activities =)

  8. Awesome first post Chantelle. Thank you for sharing what you have. “My work is my life…”- a very strong and passionate statement indeed. I agree completely to what you said about it being such an honour to be a part of the development journey of a child, it is very rewarding and fulfilling. Looking forward to your other posts and being able to see your perspective on certain topics as this course goes along.
